Bethany Bishop Griggs

Founder, Executive Director

Bethany has had a passion for Kenya since her high school years. She and her family spent 11-years living in a small village in rural Kenya where she was the executive director of a children’s home and founded a school for students from the home and local community. She founded Anaweza, together with her husband, Sherwood in 2021. She is the executive director of Anaweza where she works with team members, partners, and members of the local community to make healthcare and education accessible to underserved populations in the Nyanza region of Kenya.

Before moving to Kenya, Bethany was a high school English teacher and cross-country coach. She holds a bachelor’s in secondary English education from the University of Georgia, a master’s in professional writing from Kennesaw State University, and a master’s certificate in nonprofit leadership from the University of Connecticut.

In her free time, Bethany enjoys reading, running, visiting the ocean, and spending time with friends and family—including her children Noel and Judah.
